MisCat Contest for Project Educate by Kaz-D

Gallery Descriptions Month - win PRIZES!!!!!Galleries month
Just a few days left to enter! So don't delay!
This month at projecteducate a group of Community Volunteers have worked hard to create gallery description articles for almost every Gallery here on DeviantART. Throughout August we will be bringing you these articles covering the definitions of galleries from Photography to Photo-manipulation, Artisan Crafts to Digital Dolls. If you have any questions about where to submit your work here on DeviantART then this month will be your chance to ask. Just head over to projecteducate, send us a note or comment on one of the articles as and when they are posted.
A whole month of articles at projecteducate deserves a celebratory contest, so we're going to host one that will hopefully get your creative juices flowing! Since the aim of this month is to reduce mis-cats and help deviants re-classify their work correctly, we thought that a fitting them would be …

Having had to deal with MisCats for as long as I've been on :devart:, the contest aims to bring awareness to deviants to make sure they check their galleries for any MisCats. Bear in mind some Sub-Categories have changed or been added over the years, so it is possible that an old deviation was in a correct SubCat at one time but now needs to be moved.

The contest is open to anyone and there are Prizes
:points: :nuu:

Also, many volunteers will be writing and posting articles during August that explain what their galleries are about and what Sub-Categories to use for particular submissions. For instance:

APN: Categories and FeaturesGalleries month
Today we're taking a look at the Animals, Plants & Nature (APN) photography categories and what goes in there. It won't be as detailed as I've done some years ago. You can see the recap here. We'll look at the gallery descriptions today and some features!
The next categories are available when you submit to Photography > Animals, Plants & Nature;
Aquatic Life
Photographs of plants and animals living underwater.
Photographs where birds are the primary subject.
Domesticated Animals
Photographs of animals that have been domesticated (tamed to live with humans), as either pets or livestock, and which depend on humans for survival.
Flowers, Trees & Plants
Photographs of plant life, such as trees, flowers, shrubs and herbs.
Photographs of fungi, such as yeast, molds, lichens, mushrooms and toadstools.

Written by Anoya, the PE Blog explains the APN Photography Gallery and how to decipher the correct SubCat. Very helpful for all photographers of Animals, Plants and Nature!

Community Week for Project Educate will be coming up for the week of September 29th ~ October 6th:

Community Week - Get InvolvedThe Community Week has been a way that allows Deviants to get involved within the community to educate other deviants with their knowledge and give out tips and tricks, and interview outstanding deviants.
Next Community Week
September 29th - October 5th
How can I get involved?
All you need to do is note projecteducate with your article idea! We can make sure to avoid double-posts in the Community Week and work with you on your idea when another deviant had the same idea. As soon as we are happy with the article idea, you will receive an invite to Contributors to have access to the journal skin, guidelines, and week schedule.

To get involved read the blog for applicable information!

:damphyr: To be a member of WingIt-Stock a deviant must be a stock provider of winged resources.

:pointr: Please follow dA's guidelines for creating stock:
FAQ #809: What are DeviantArt's stock image guidelines?

No limits on submissions. Work must be your own. No screenshots! All submissions must follow dA's rules and terms of service.

All winged resources are welcome. Birds, planes, Poser fairies, brushes, fractals that look like wings, etc. as long as they are winged resources. Members may submit the resources of other deviants. Submit those stocks the same way and an invitation will be sent to the stock provider to have the stock put in the gallery. Please submit to the correct gallery :aww:

Read the post processing rules : [link]

You may not post-process your entry from or to include elements of multiple images, graphics or text, clip art, computer-rendered images, or elements from other photographs.

Postprocessing of submitted entries is restricted to only minor alterations. Minor alterations are considered to be changes that affect the entire image at once. This includes cropping, basic brightness/contrast modifications, editing curves and levels.

The following techniques are not permissible:

:bulletgreen: dodging
:bulletgreen: burning
:bulletgreen: selective blur
:bulletgreen: selective (de)saturation
:bulletgreen: selective sharpening
:bulletgreen: hue/saturation of specific colours
:bulletgreen: use of shadow/highlight tool
:bulletgreen: compositing exposures

Use of channel mixer to turn a colour photo into black/white or duotone is allowed, and only that. If you use RAW-format from a digital camera you're encouraged to convert with 'As Shot'-option.

If you're unsure if a certain darkroom technique is allowed, please ask the judges of the contest in advance before you submit. In case there is uncertainty about the validity of the post-processing, you're encouraged to save a copy of the RAW/JPEG-file from camera or scanner for validation.
