ManipulateThis Contest ~ The Four Seasons

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 6, 2013, 9:04 PM
THE FOUR SEASONS CONTEST

Due Date June 30th
:iconkiribanemoteplz:Check the Countdown Clock, Which Keeps Track of the Precise Time Left on the Profile Page of
:iconmanipulatethis:

Manipulations Only! NO Mixed Media, NO 3D Stock, NO Painting Over Stock! Entries must be "true-to-form" Manipulations!
This is a "Scene" Manipulation and not a "Design" ~ for additional information between the difference of the two, check This Tutorial!

In addition,  entries must have a sense of depth and space in the image. Using the rules of atmospheric perspective, create space and depth which will help your deviation look more realistic.

PLEASE be advised that membership requests are closed until after the end of the contest! The contest is for current members only.

CONTEST EXPECTATIONS

Build "The Four Seasons" Contest Entry  By Using These Expectations:

:pointr: Entries must use one of the required landscape stock found below.

:pointr: The required stock must be edited by adding appropriate objects and/or by changing colors. For example, the stock for Spring is all green. Adding flowers and other stock help make it look more like Spring.

:pointr: Entries must use any additional stock (of your choice) to carry through the seasonal theme. Everyone must use more than five (5) additional stocks within their contest entry.

:pointr: There mus be at least one model in the entry. The model(s), as well as anything else added must be appropriate for the season chosen. No bikini-clad beauties in the winter scene!

:pointr: Other Resources, like brushes and textures, are fine to use (in fact, they are encouraged), but they are not stock, and cannot be counted as stock.

:pointr: No monochromatic (everything done in different shades of the same color) color schemes!

:pointr: Don't forget the group policy about "airbrush/painting", and other ways to get a "painterly effect" on your photo-manipulation. For clarification, read precisely what a manipulation is on the group's HOME page.

:pointr: Check the Contest Blog for all the current information, as well as the prize lists!

:pointr: Required Stock!

:iconleartistplz: Be creative; however, do not be so different the required stock is unrecognizable.

:deviation: Each member can enter up to two (2) deviations into the contest. If entering twice, each entry must use a different background and "other" stocks!
:icongoldmedalplz: There will be prizes for three (3) entries in each level. Check the Contest Blog for a full list or prizes.

Make sure to write in the artist description what level the contest entry is being entered into (Level 1 for Novice; 2 for Beginners; 3 for Intermediate; 4 for Advanced)! Please state the entry is for "The Four Seasons Contest" and provide a link the contest. Submit to the group and wait to hear if the entry follows the rules. If it does, it will be accepted. Remember that following the requirements is very important and will affect the eligibility of the entry to place in the contest.

If you have any questions, check the contest blog or send a note to

Read the post processing rules : [link]

You may not post-process your entry from or to include elements of multiple images, graphics or text, clip art, computer-rendered images, or elements from other photographs.

Postprocessing of submitted entries is restricted to only minor alterations. Minor alterations are considered to be changes that affect the entire image at once. This includes cropping, basic brightness/contrast modifications, editing curves and levels.

The following techniques are not permissible:

:bulletgreen: dodging
:bulletgreen: burning
:bulletgreen: selective blur
:bulletgreen: selective (de)saturation
:bulletgreen: selective sharpening
:bulletgreen: hue/saturation of specific colours
:bulletgreen: use of shadow/highlight tool
:bulletgreen: compositing exposures

Use of channel mixer to turn a colour photo into black/white or duotone is allowed, and only that. If you use RAW-format from a digital camera you're encouraged to convert with 'As Shot'-option.

If you're unsure if a certain darkroom technique is allowed, please ask the judges of the contest in advance before you submit. In case there is uncertainty about the validity of the post-processing, you're encouraged to save a copy of the RAW/JPEG-file from camera or scanner for validation.
